DAY 1

The first few people involved with the trek that I met, I came across at Mumbai airport. It was ridiculous o'clock in the a.m. and, whilst I was lucky enough to know one of the faces in front of me, the rest were total strangers. As we tried coordinating taxis between airport and our accomodation, I managed to learn a few names, a few of the educational disciplinaries, and way more than I ever wanted about quite how uncomfortable the heat and humidity was going to be. We knew that there was nothing expected of us this first day so, after a quick sleep, decided to begin exploring Mumbai, starting with the street markets and infamous outdoor laundry facilities.
The day did not end early and I found myself connecting far more than expected with those around me. Not willing to waste time so early, we thought it wise to stay out as long as possible dancing, laughing, and just genuinely enjoying one anothers company. Needless to say, meeting everyone involved on the trip (Professors as well as students from both the University of Edinburgh and the Indian School of Design) just four hours later bought into perspective just how not wise it was staying out as late as we had. This is when I met the official 7 I was to spend the week researching and learning alongside.
Having arrived in Mumbai just 30 hours ago and already exhausted, the point of scheduled learning has now begun with day 2 starting at 7am local time. We've plans to tour Mani Bhavan and recieve introductions to Indian textile traditions and sari draping but any recommendations on day or night activities are more than welcome.
We are also documenting our trip via our social media page Sewing_Fashion_Sustainably on instagram so be sure to follow to stay up to date on all our adventures to come!!
